Sandstorm
They say that the desert is one of our planet’s harshest environments. Yet living things still manage to function and survive. More than just design with a function, it’s a message. Taking inspiration from Picasso’s rose and blue periods this collection from BOBO1325 depicts a journey of mental health in an aim to banish the stigma.
When I think of mental health, whether it be depression, anxiety or crippling insecurities; I imagine a dark powerful magic. It can feel like your mind and body are no longer your own; almost like you are suspended in time withering under the haze of a spell. Isolated. Surviving in the harshest ‘environment’ of your mind. But who wants to just survive, when you can live and you can thrive? Like the blooming desert flowers you can break the spell and live your life once more in a riot of colour.
And That’s The Tea
Few things possess the quiet power that tea does. A ritual capable of transcending cultures, generations and social divides. Ceremonial and social in equal measure, tea has long been woven into the fabric of everyday life. In Britain it has been shared across centuries regardless of class, status or rank, yet across the world it carries its own symbolism, stories and traditions.
It is a drink that has truly stood the test of time. From the elegance of high tea to the hurried builder’s brew. From herbal infusions praised for healing properties to the universally accepted belief that a strong cup of Yorkshire tea can mend heartbreak...and occasional hangover.
This design draws inspiration from a collision of eras and influences. Constructed through references to varying design periods, layered with classic floral elements including orchids, peonies and delphiniums, the latter symbolising transcendence beyond time and space, much like the transportive quality of a good cup of tea itself.
The collection acts as a bridge between East and West. Connecting the origins of tea leaves in Eastern culture to Britain’s enduring love affair with tea following its introduction during the reign of King Charles II. A celebration of ritual, conversation, comfort and the strange magic found within a simple cup.
